Tamarindo, Costa Rica Wellness Guide

May 04, 2017

Costa Rica is a haven for yoga and wellness – with retreats and studios galore, an abundance of fresh, healthy foods and a landscape that evokes an urge to do your Wild Thing on the beach.

With multiple microclimates, there is variety of places to go that will give you quite a different experience. One of our favorite exciting destinations is Tamarindo, a tropical, laid back surf town in the Guanacaste Peninsula.

Here is our guide for what to eat, where to practice and what to see and do!

Eat

Santa Rita Café & Market – Easy spot for breakfast, lunch, coffee and lighter fare like bakes goods made from scratch.

Nordico Coffee House – Stop here for some high quality coffee, tea and kombucha, light and fresh food options like acai bowls and chia seed pudding, and sandwiches and lunch options. (Conveniently located in the same shopping center as SER Om Shanti Yoga Studio.)

Bistro NOI – A great variety of traditional and not-so-traditional options (like avocado toast and charcuterie board) in an open air, inviting setting.

Falafel Bar – Costa Rica may not seem as a hot spot for falafel, so Falafel Bar may surprise you! You cannot go wrong with the falafel plate with fresh, healthy sides, and if you like some spice, be sure to add the green hot sauce!

Green Papaya Taco Bar – Wonderful staff and atmosphere (especially if you can sit outside on the chair swings!) with fresh tacos, burritos and salads.

Shrimp Hole – Admittedly I was thrown off by the name, but this place will not disappoint! An adorable little shack on the side of the road with super fresh, homemade dishes – can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

Sprout – Fresh, beautifully presented healthy food in an open-air setting with flavors that were all on point! They offer great happy hour specials for tacos and beverages!

Practice

Mermaids & Sailors Yoga Studio – Friendly, knowledgeable staff, delightful boutique with environmentally conscious, on-trend apparel and wellness products (including Spiritual Gangster), and you can even pick up a fresh juice after class!

SER Om Shanti Yoga Studio - Another knowledgeable studio that can suit beginner to experienced students.

See & Do

Rincon de la Viejas Volcano and National Park - Enjoy hot springs, hiking, horseback riding, canopy tours, and a variety of activities depending on your interests.

Explore the nearby beaches like Playa Conchal (the beautiful sand is made up of shell pieces).

Hike, Kayak, Run, Horseback Ride, Surf, Snorkel, Jet Ski, adventure is at your fingertips! Enjoy the Pura Vida!
